Pool and Patio Renovation in Remuera - Full Transformation

This was a full-scope transformation in Remuera: pool, spa and the entire patio, right down to the equipment shed. We stripped the pool and spa back to bare shells, replaced the surrounding patio with porcelain, rebuilt the plant area, and finished the whole space to a premium standard.

Artisan Stone & Tile handled every part in-house, from demolition and drainage through to the final tiling. A job like this only works when one team owns the pool, the spa and the surrounds together, so the finishes line up and the systems all talk to each other.

The Challenge and Scope

The client wanted the whole outdoor area redone, not just the pool. That meant tackling everything at once: strip all the old plaster from both the pool and the spa, tear out the tired patio, sort the drainage properly, and deal with a rusting filter-shed roof that was letting the plant area down.

Doing it as one project is the right call. When you renovate the pool but leave the patio and plant behind, the new work only highlights the old. So we scoped a full rebuild of the surface, the surrounds and the systems together.

The Porcelain Patio

The patio is the biggest change to the space. We removed the old paving entirely and laid a new porcelain patio, set on an epoxy grout system for a hard-wearing, low-maintenance surface that handles Auckland weather and pool splash without fuss.

Two details make it feel considered: the epoxy grout keeps the joints clean and chemical-resistant, and we fitted hidden skimmer lids so the skimmer covers disappear into the paving pattern instead of breaking it up. It’s the kind of finish that reads as one continuous surface rather than a pool with paving dropped around it. For more outdoor work, see our pool surrounds Auckland page.

Fully Tiled Spa with Stainless Steel Fittings

The spa was stripped and rebuilt as a fully tiled feature with stainless steel fittings. Tiling a spa end to end, rather than plastering it, gives a sharper, more hard-wearing finish and lets the spa match the pool tiling exactly.

Stainless steel jets and fittings are the premium choice: they resist corrosion far better than plastic and look the part in a fully tiled spa. We also gave the spa its own upgraded filtration so it runs independently of the main pool. Every tile went down on an epoxy grout system built for submerged use.

Tiling and Premium Coping

We tiled the waterline and used glass mosaic tiles across the pool and spa, then finished both edges with premium porcelain drop-face copings. Porcelain is dense and low-maintenance, and it stands up to salt and chlorine without regular sealing, while the drop-face profile gives a clean line into the water.

All the tiling uses epoxy grout, which resists chemical attack and holds up far better than cement grout at the waterline. See our swimming pool tiling in Auckland and pool coping stones pages for the detail.

The Interior Finish

The pool interior was finished in a premium plaster marble surface: a smooth, polished marble-aggregate render that gives real depth to the water and a comfortable feel underfoot. It pairs cleanly with the tiled spa and glass mosaics without competing with them. For current finish options, see our pool renovations Auckland page.

New Plant Structure, Drainage and Systems

A lot of this project happened where you don’t see it, and that’s what makes the finish last.

  • Filter-shed rebuild – we removed the old rusty filter-shed roof, installed a new floating roof and poured a fresh concrete base, giving the plant a clean, dry, tidy home.
  • Drainage – upgraded so water clears properly around the pool and patio instead of pooling on the new surface.
  • Filtration – upgraded for both the pool and the spa, each running cleanly.
  • Lighting – new LED lighting to bring the pool, spa and patio to life at night.

The Investment

This was a large, full-scope renovation covering the pool, the spa, a complete new patio, drainage, a rebuilt plant structure and new systems. The value reflects that breadth of work.

We’re upfront with clients about cost. This project came in at around $110,000 + GST. The money breaks down roughly like this:

  • The porcelain patio – full removal of the old paving, then new porcelain laid on an epoxy grout system with hidden skimmer lids.
  • The spa rebuild – stripped to the shell, fully tiled with stainless steel fittings and its own upgraded filtration.
  • Tiling and coping – glass mosaics across the pool and spa, premium porcelain drop-face copings, all set in epoxy grout.
  • Plant and drainage – new plant roof and concrete base, upgraded drainage, filtration and LED lighting.

Pool Renovation in Remuera

Remuera has some of Auckland’s most established homes and pools, and owners here expect the whole outdoor area to work as one considered space. That’s why a full pool-and-patio renovation makes sense: the concrete shell usually has decades of life left, and doing the pool, spa and surrounds together delivers a result a piecemeal upgrade never quite matches.

We work across central Auckland, including nearby Westmere. Every job is trade-certified, uses BRANZ-appraised materials and epoxy grout for submerged tiling, and is backed by our 35+ five-star Google reviews.
